ABOUT MYSTERYTAO
Eastern Taoism · The Way Within
More than vessels — a living path back to your true nature
At Eastern Taoism, we believe that true beauty is never merely skin-deep. Every vessel we shape and every quiet object we share serves as a ferry between heaven and earth, between the outer noise and the inner heart. This is not simply a gallery of Eastern aesthetics. It is a slender trail leading home — to that still point within, where the dust of the world settles, and ease arises from simplicity.
The Founder
My name carries the silent hope of generations.
I am Cheng Li, named after the ancient story “Cheng Men Li Xue” — standing in snow before the master's gate. It speaks of reverence for the true teacher, of stillness in self-cultivation, and of an unwavering devotion to the Way. My ancestors inherited the classical lineage of the Cheng school of Neo-Confucianism, delving into heavenly principles, human ethics, and the awakening of the self. They knew that the “heavenly principles” of Confucianism and the Great Tao of Taoism flow from the very same source — different paths, yet one mountain.
But the tides of time scattered our family's transmission. For years I wandered through worldly affairs, carried by the rise and fall of fortune, until deep inside I began to yearn for true peace — plain, authentic, unadorned. Looking back upon my ancestors' original intention, I came to a sudden clarity: Confucianism steadies the self in the human realm; Taoism quiets the heart beneath the heavens. They are not opposites, but two wings of the same ancient wisdom — the root and the leaf of one living tree.
Thus, with karmic threads re‑woven, I chose to return. To awaken that sleeping understanding of the Tao that runs in my blood.
Our Philosophy
Eastern Taoism holds that the genuine Way does not hide in remote mountain hermitages alone — it whispers through the objects of everyday life. An incense burner, a string of prayer beads, a simple pendant: each is a vessel that holds the Tao. We embed the search for the Great Way into humble things, through quiet craftsmanship and enduring elegance.
Drawing from the essence of classical Chinese aesthetics and traditional handcraft, we honour natural materials and old techniques. Every object we offer has its own breath. They do not merely adorn you — they cultivate your inner world, companioning you through ordinary hours and extraordinary journeys alike.
Eastern Grace · The Art of Stillness
Our inspiration flows from millennia of Chinese civilisation — the wisdom of Taoist classics, the nourishment of mountains and streams, the silent teaching of wood, stone, and water. The deep melancholy of aloeswood, the gentle warmth of sandalwood, the clear elegance of jade, the lucent whisper of crystals — these gifts from the earth pass through the hands of masters and become talismans of quiet blessing.
Each object carries the most precious whispers of Eastern aesthetics: clarity, natural ease, harmony. We believe that these simple, warm vessels can help you keep a corner of inner peace amidst a bustling world, and recover a graceful step when life feels hurried.
Our Mission
At Eastern Taoism, our purpose goes beyond offering objects of Eastern charm. We are devoted to bringing the refined beauty of Taoist-inspired aesthetics and the ancient philosophy of “qing jing zi ran” (purity and natural spontaneity) into modern life — to preserve the quiet yet profound power of that lineage, and to share the unique depth and warmth of Eastern wisdom with the world.
We carefully select natural materials and pour devotion into every piece.
We honour traditional craftsmanship and aesthetic integrity, guarding the Taoist lineage that runs through our bloodline.
We walk with sincerity, accompanying each destined heart — in the dust and fire of this mortal world, holding a space of peace and freedom.
✦ Walk with us ✦
May these subtle Eastern offerings companion you on your daily path.
May each object, touched by the ancient breath of heaven and earth, give you a moment of stillness and a trace of true peace.
Wherever you are in the world, Eastern Taoism remains here — walking with you on this journey inward, back to your own luminous heart.
The weaving of the diamond knot itself carries the saying 'unbreakable, impervious to all evil,' symbolizing peace and stability, and all things being complete. It also carries the romantic meaning of the matchmaker tied the red string, wishing for fate and good fortune to accompany you.
Red Cord – the protective seal of the Taoist sect
to repel the invasion and disturbance of evil spirits
Strengthen your inner will
Daily activities go smoothly and are auspicious
In Taoist folk beliefs, when a master blesses and personally ties a red string during purification rituals, it transforms into a living spiritual ritual. It is said to anchor the wearer's soul to the body, blocking 'sha' energy and forming an invisible barrier before misfortune. Unlike Buddhist wish cords or folk matchmaking red threads, Taoist red cords often correspond to the Three Pure Ones and the Eight Trigrams—wearing them is to align one's energy with the natural workings of heaven and earth. Many Taoist hermits and temple practitioners wear this cord to remind themselves that they are not alone: the gods are watching, and the great Dao is protecting.
Cinnabar - Round bead
Cinnabar has long been regarded as a "sacred object for warding off evil." These two round beads not only carry on the protective meaning of the red string and purify the aura, but also represent "echoing beginning and end and achieving perfection."
The Five Elements belong to fire
Block the intrusion of negative energy
Cinnabar - Jujube
The homophone "early" symbolizes early blessings, early encounters, and early health and well-being, also carrying the traditional blessing meaning of "having a noble child early."
The jujubes are round and plump, symbolizing a prosperous life and sweet days; Paired with cinnabar material, it further enhances the energy of good fortune, warding off evil, and welcoming blessings.
In traditional culture, jujubes also symbolize longevity and health, implying wishes for "lasting blessings and longevity."
Cinnabar - Lotus Pearl
The lotus "emerges unstained from the mud," symbolizing purity and nobility, calming the mind and calming the mind, helping you overcome worries and anxiety, and maintaining inner clarity and peace.
"Lian" sounds like "lian" (connected), symbolizing continuous good luck and smooth official career. It also represents "lotus blooming step by step," wishing for a smooth road ahead and all things going smoothly.
In Buddhist culture, the lotus also represents wisdom and awakening, echoing the theme of "Fulfillment of Blessings and Wisdom" in the painting, protecting you with clarity of mind and nature, peace, and good fortune.
Gold - lotus pod pendant
Inside the lotus pod are lotus seeds. The character "蓮" is homophone for "connected" and "子" for "child," symbolizing many children and blessings, a house full of descendants, and also symbolizes family harmony and thriving descendants.
The hole in the lotus pod is regarded as 'Lulutong,' symbolizing smooth progress in everything, smooth careers, many ways to get things done, and few obstacles.
The lotus and the lotus pod together are called "two lifetimes of joy," representing a perfect love and a perfect match, as well as the beautiful wish of "endless life and lasting blessings." The golden material further enhances the sense of wealth and good fortune, wishing for wealth and good fortune to accompany you.
